A Brief Biographical Sketch of Ranga Reddy, M.D.

Doctor Ranga Reddy is an Attending Anesthesiologist at Memorial Medical Center and Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, Illinois. He has also served as the Department Chairman. Having graduated from Kurnool Medical College with M.B.B.S and M.S. (General Surgery) degrees in 1975, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1976 and completed his residency in the Department of Anesthesiology at SUNY, New York. During 1979-1982, he held Assistant Professorship at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. He has been in practice at Memorial Medical Center since 1982. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of anesthesiology, Academy of Pain Management, and Fellow-International College of Surgeons (FICS),

Doctor Reddy is an active member and officer of many civic and professional organizations, viz., President, Kurnool Medical College Alumni 1984-1988, Chairman, TANA Physicians, 1988-1992, and Member of the Board of Trustees of the American Society of Indian Anesthesiologists (ASIA), 1991-1995. He is an active member of a number of Asian Indian Political Associations where he works with several Congressional and Senate leaders. He served the AAPI since 1990 in various capacities including that of President and Board of Trustees.

During his Presidency, AAPI had a very productive year in the areas of membership enhancement, improved communication, charitable activities, political activism, and liaison with other associations. Doctor Reddy has reached out to all Physicians of Indian origin and guided the second generation physicians into leadership roles. He’s responsible for “One Member One Vote” in AAPI Electoral process and also started “AAPI Legislative Day” at Capitol Hill. He introduced many programs to serve the needy both in India and the USA.

As a professional, Doctor Reddy’s contributions to India have been rich and varied. He sponsored the project “Adopt the Primary Health Care Center of your native place”, established the AAPI charitable Clinic in Andhra Pradesh and is closely associated with several other programs such as “Adopt a Student”, “ SHARE”, “PANCHAMITRA” Ambulance Service, Bone Marrow Registry, ATA Med. Services, EMS & Trauma Services and Anti-Smoking Campaign.

Doctor Reddy is married to Krishna Veni. They have two sons, Satish and Jay. Among several awards he has received are: Distinguished Service Award from The American College of Physician of Indian Origin (ACP), Excellence in Political Leadership and Community Service Award from American Telugu Association (ATA), and Most Distinguished Service Award from American Association of Physician of Indian Origin (AAPI).
