Born in 1956, he took MBBS in 1978 from Kurnool Medical College with Gold Medals in Anatomy, Social & Preventive Medicine, Clinical Surgery, Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology and merit certificates in Pharmacology & Forensic Medicine. He took MS in General Surgery from JIPMER 1982 and joined the prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital in 1982.
He had 20 years of experience as the Professor of Surgical Oncology & Chief, Gastrointestinal Service, at the prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital, largest Comprehensive Cancer Center in India. At Tata Memorial Hospital he was a Member of team performing the first Bone marrow transplantation in India and the Co-coordinator of the first computerized hospital information system in the country

He is now Chairman of Surgical Oncology, Lilavati Hospital, and Professor of G.I.Oncology, Asian Institute of Oncology, SL Raheja Hospital, Mumbai from 2002. His primary interest is Gastrointestinal Oncology. He was the earliest in India to specialize in the field of Liver tumors – resection and nonresectional therapies including RF ablation; Gall Bladder cancer – multimodal treatment and surgery ; Pancreatic cancers and Pancreatic resections for ampullary tumors and pancreatic head cancers; Sphincter conservation for rectal cancer. He has performed more than 200 pancreatectomies with less than 5% mortality.

His surgical expertise is much sought after and recorded as teaching Videos which are popular amongst Indian surgeons. He is coordinating Multicentre databases in common HPB diseases and has active collaboration for basic and clinical research.His skills and academic contributions in Colo Rectal Surgeons are recognized and he is the Chief Editor of Indian Journal of Coloproctology since 1997.

He is the Founder Member, Secretary, Indian Chapter IHPBA since 2000.He was elected to the Council of IHPBA. He is the Congress Chairman for the 8th World Congress of IHPBA in India in 2008. He is the treasurer of the Asia Pacific IHPBA.

He is Fellow of American College of Surgeons, International College of Surgeons (Indian Section); National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), International Medical Sciences Academy. He is Life Member & member Governing Council Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Indian Society of Oncology, and Indian Association of Study of Liver.

He initiated “Project Gall bladder Cancer” – the largest population based on the field survey with specialist teams covering areas with high incidence of Ca. GB in the Gangetic Basin in 2004. His main goal is to conduct basic and applied research in Ca GB and develop low cost technologies for cancer care in developing countries.

He is an Invited Faculty Member in several International and National Conferences. He received 16 Oration awards at National Conferences. He is the Principal Editor of the book ‘Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery: Current Concepts’ (2002). He contributed chapters to Recent Advances in Surgery Vol.6 & 7.

He launched a portal for public and professional education http://www.indiacancer.org/ . He started a Charitable Trust ‘Crusade Against Cancer – Foundation’ with several objectives of prevention, education, help and assistance for cancer patients and public education.

Dr. Sekhar Tam Tam M.B.,B.S, MBE

Dr. Sekhar Tam Tam was born into a family of agricultural land owners in 1951 in Dachepalli, (Guntur District, A.P.) India. He was inspired to become a doctor by his grandfather who was a practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine. In 1967 Dr. Tam Tam passed the matriculation exams of Andhra University. He was later awarded a gold medal in literature in the Pre-university exams at KBN College in 1968. After graduating from Kurnool Medical College in 1976, Dr. Tam Tam joined the rural health service in South India. In 1979 he served at the Kingston Public Hospital in Jamaica before joining the health service in Grenada.

Dr. Sekhar Tam Tam has been in Grenada’s public service for the past 26 years. He was employed by the Ministry of Health in 1980 as a Casualty Medical Officer at the General Hospital in St. George’s. In 1981 he was promoted to the post of District Medical Officer and he continues to serve in this capacity. As a District Medical Officer, his roles in the community included that of a family physician and an advocate of public health. Dr. Tam Tam has served in four parishes of Grenada including St. George, St. Mark, St. John and St. Andrew. He was a member of several medical boards and currently serves on the Grenada Pharmacy Council. He is also a clinical instructor at the St.George’s University School of Medicine.

Dr. Sekhar Tam Tam was awarded the "Member of the British Empire" (MBE) medal by 'Queen' Elizabeth II at an investiture ceremony held at Buckingham Palace on December 6th, 2006. The award was given for Dr. Tam Tam’s contribution to health and public service in the British Caribbean island of Grenada.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is an order of chivalry established on 4 June 1917 by King George V. MBE is one of the five classes in this order. Originally, the Order included only one division. In 1918, it was formally divided into Military and Civil Divisions. The Order has been used to honour not only British citizens, but also other Commonwealth nations’ citizens with distinguished service in various fields.

Dr. Sekhar Tam Tam and Smt.Akhilandeswari Pasupuleti have two children Hima and Kiran, who were both recipients of the T. A. Marryshow and CXC’s Berger paint Awards. Kiran was also an Island Scholar in 1992. Both children have followed their father’s footsteps in their careers. Hima and Kiran completed their medical training at the University of the West Indies and are both Obstetricians & Gynecologists in the United States.

Dr.M V R Sharma hails from Vemulru, a village near Kovvur Mandal West Godavari District,Andhra Pradesh. Dr.Sarma did his Medical schooling at Kurnool Medical College,Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh in the year 1970. He was an identified personality in his very beginning of his Medical career and had good following. He organised tours with his classmates to places like Hampi,Srisailam,Alampuram,Mahanandi,Lepakshi etc.

He commenced his service to the community from Sevagaram near Wardha of the then Vidarbha of Maharatastra in Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences as a senior resident in the Department of Orthopedics under guidance of Dr.Damle.Sevagram a place known to entire India, for Gandhiji the Nation builder's activities before independence.

A sleek turn within the profession:
Inspired by the commitment of Dr.Kane, Professor of Anatomy to the student community Dr.Sarma joined as Demonstrator in the Department of Anatomy in the same institute. He developed Osteology wing of Anatomy Museum with his own creativity and the specimens can be seen even today at Sevagram.

Acquired the quality as a speaker and a successful faculty:
The inborn didactic element in him, made Dr.Sarma an exemplary lecturer. He was liked by students and the colleagues. The Gandhian thought of selfless service and Shrama Daan blossomed in him in this place of Mahatama's Ashram. Later he joined Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinada as faculty member.

His profound love of service to humanity took him to villages. He served east and west Godavari district people in PHCs of Pedanindra Kolanu, Kamavarupu Kota and Pamarru. He also worked as deputy civil surgeon in Government hospital Mandapeta.

His service to the poor and ailing was recognized by the state government of Andhra Pradesh. He was awarded as the best doctor of East Godavari by the then District collector -Sri Sameer Sarma.

He retired as Resident Medical Officer Government Hospital, Mahaboobnagar, AP.Currently he is rendering his valuable services as a faculty in a Medical College at Rajahmundry, AP.

Interests:
Travelling, visiting and exploring new places and temples, driving long distances, movie watching, working on the computer , drawing ,painting & photography. Taking up any projects useful to the society, for example renovating the old temples. 'Serving the country is serving god' is his practicing hobby.
